29/6/2010 — Starting July 1st, Ms. Minah Mosele, visiting Ph.D. student from University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Life Sciences (KU LIFE), Department of Food Science, Quality and Technology Group, will be stationed at AAU Campus Esbjerg, ACABS Research Group.

Minah’s Ph.D. project titled “Characterisation of Marama Bean Carbohydrates”, concerns physico-chemical and ultra-structural characterisation of marama beans by use of HPAEC-PAD (high performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection), different microscopy techniques, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR spectroscopy) as well as other spectroscopic techniques. The principal Ph.D. supervisor from KU is Associate Professor Åse Solvej Hansen.

During her six months stay at ACABS, Minah will decipher the vast amounts of spectroscopic data she has generated over the last couple of months using multivariate methods. Furthermore, hyperspectral and conventional high-resolution RGB images will be acquired and interpreted adding spatial understanding to the carbohydrate-chemistry of marama beans. More information about the project can be found at www.marama.life.ku.dk.
